Welcome to our website. In January 2019 we revitalised the site adding design that showcases us and the work of our members. We hope you find it interesting, but the real fun, learning and enjoyment happens in the activities we share when together.
“We love fibre crafts. Our members use a wide range of natural and man-made fibres, beautiful wools, silk, alpaca, cotton and at times you will find hemp and harakeke being used. The range of crafts we engage in cover everything from knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, felting and dyeing, with moments of mixed media.Margaret Russell, President
We are a busy group with quite a large membership. Anyone visiting or new to join will feel welcome, our members are always friendly, and readily share ideas, knowledge and what they are working on. It is easy to become involved and feel a part of such a lovely group.”
Our National Body
We are affiliated to Creative Fibre which holds an Exhibition and Fibre Festival somewhere in the country one year and an Education Event in a different area the following year. At both of these events, members can attend and take part in the many fibre-based educational classes on offer. Also we are affiliated to – the New Zealand Spinning, Weaving and Woolcrafts Society Inc.
Members have access to our sales tables, raffles, equipment and a good size library. We hold our own bi-annual exhibition (read about our 2018 winners here), and exhibit and sell at the Bi-annual BOP exhibition which runs alternative years. All the BOP groups take turns hosting this event and include Pahoia, Mount Maunganui, Te Puke, Whakatane, Ohiwa, Kawerau and Rotorua.
Working with fibre is fun and delightfully amazing. Anyone new can attend for three visits before deciding if they wish to join as a member. Contact Margaret to find out more.
